Gili T in itself was an experience, but having the opportunity to see one of the most biodiverse underwater regions in the world thanks to Gili Divers was an experience I'll have with me for the rest of my life. The day started out with us checking in at the Gili Divers Hotel, which had a store front and well-kept rooms in the back overlooking the practice diving pool.

Practicing Our Dive
Neither my boyfriend nor I have ever dived, but we were completely taken care of by our instructor. Our diving excursion started in the pool going over all the maneuvers and protocol required of us before actually going into the ocean. To be honest, I was a little nervous with some of the stuff I've heard about diving, but we both felt completely safe after an hour of instruction on how to lower ourselves in the water, equalize our ears, remain still, and use our oxygen tanks.
Oh wow! It was like nothing I've ever experienced! There truly is a whole other world down there and Gili Divers' team of experienced master divers allowed us to see it. We went to Manta Ray Point, which was known to have a lot of different types of underwater creatures (although lacked actual manta rays). It was a little nerve-racking at first lowering ourselves down into the ocean, but I followed the instructions that were given to us about going slow and taking our time to equalize our ears and everything worked out just fine.
We were underwater for about 45 minutes before we ran out of air, but the time went by lightening fast. There was so much to see from clown fish to turtles to brightly colored coral and we spent the entire time pointing out different types of fish and just marveling at all of the underwater wonders.
We couldn't have asked for a better first experience. I highly recommend taking the jump (literally) and diving with Gili Divers if you're planning to visit the Gili Islands, especially if you've never scuba dived before. They'll hold your hand when you need it, but also give you the freedom to explore and see the wonders of the ocean without the instructor being your ball and chain. The stay at their hotel was also lovely as we got to meet a lot of cool people in the Gili T diving community who were incredibly friendly.
