Into the Wild: Armstrong Woods- Redwood Forest (Guerneville, California)
What a way to wake up! In the last few days of our Nor-Cal trip, we've been hit with pretty inclement weather. That wasn't going to stop us from getting into the wild, though. I love Redlands for its sunny summer vibes, but its dry dessert California feel makes me miss the magical green forestry of my PNW roots. I really had no idea how similar the forests up here were, but a little research and I found the Northern California coastal forests are a type of temperate coniferous forest, which is quite similar to the conifers in Seattle.
Even with the overcast, misting skies, it was absolutely beautiful. Definitely a sense of charming, melancholy, with the creaking moss-veiled trail and high-up canopy sprinkling droplets down on our heads. At one point I paused just to listen to the forest sounds around me and take in the rarity of being so immersed in nature. It really is something so profoundly good for the soul and the psyche.
